JAKARTA TEXTILE MUSEUM

The Jakarta Textile Museum is a cultural education institution with a mission to assure the conservation of traditional textiles.

Textiles have always been an important part of life in Indonesia, as an element for dresses and garments, as well as a ritual and ceremonial object. Textiles constitute a very rich aspect of Indonesian culture and are a testament to the degree of technological expertise and artistic skill attained by their maker. They also provide a window into local histories.

In its effort to raise public appreciation of Indonesian textile traditions and encourage their participation in the preservation of this national heritage, the Jakarta Textile Museum always strives to inform and educate people trough the holding of exhibitions, seminars, workshops, researches and publications.

Vision :
The Textile museum is a non-profit institution and aims to become a center for the conservation the country's nature and culture, for scientific activities, for arts and culture, education, information, for cultural and educational recreation, and also aims to become one of the main references in the process of nation building. textile heritage, for scientific and media activities related to art and culture, for educating and informing the public on textile issues as well as for cultural and educational recreational activities.

Mission :
To carry out conservation efforts in matters related to the textiles culture in Indonesia, conduct an inventory of natural resources and traditional textile collections from various regions in Indonesia. It is also documenting, holding researches and present information and communicate it to the public.
